J. Dillon Hoey
1941-2003

Dillon was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. He was the son of a Chicago policeman and the grandson of a railroad worker who was fatally injured on the job. He understood the needs of seriously injured individuals and their families.

Dillon's professional life manifested the personal values that grew from his strong south side roots. When Dillon started this firm 25 years ago, he made the firm's mission simple: provide the best legal representation possible to seriously injured individuals and their families.

As his personal injury practice grew, he also represented the Great Lakes area longshoremen under the Jones Act. His personal injury practice expanded further when he began to represent railroad workers under the FELA. Dillon was appointed Designated Legal Counsel for the UTU in 1991 and for the TCU in 1998. He raised the bar for what it meant to serve as Designated Legal Counsel by making an array of information, news, and resources available for free to railroaders and their families.

Dillon was a member of many professional associations, and he served the community as an executive board member of Leo High School and as chairman of the Art Committee of the Union League Club of Chicago.

During Dillon's last days, his eternal spirit continued to show. He repeatedly told his family and friends, "Don't worry about me. Just go out and play a round of golf with your friends and think of me."

In tribute to Dillon's life and the lives of so many he helped and befriended during his life's journey, everyone at Hoey & Farina pledges to continue Dillon's mission for his firm.
