Straight Track Feedback

We would like to thank Brother Kent L. Bushman, Vice Chairman of C&NW Systems Federation BMWE, for reading and taking the time to comment on John Grob's article, “Disability Benefits - What Every Railroader Needs to Know” (Straight Track #12).

We are publishing his comments and we encourage everyone to become involved. Your comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Just read the article written by John Grob.

Comments:

1) It should have stated these benefits are available for on-the-job injuries as well as off-the-job injuries or sickness.

2) The article should have pointed out that the supplemental sickness benefits are in addition to the RUIA and results in upwards of $2100 per month. Also the supplemental will pick up the RUIA when it is exhausted and pay for a period of 12 months of disability.

3) You should have mentioned in the article that a Leave of Absence may be required by the Railroad.  We have too many members who get injured, contact designated counsel, receive excellent advice about their injury and sickness benefits but are not informed of the possibility that they need to file for a Leave of Absence and subsequently are terminated. This makes both of our jobs harder.
