The idea
for a free weekly email newsletter for
railroaders and their families was developed
from our desire to better serve our clients and
railroaders. |

We launched Straight Track
three years ago this week. After 156 editions,
and thousands of subscribers, we are happy to
report that Straight Track is going
strong and is still fulfilling its mission in
spades.
Throughout
these many editions, we sought to inform
railroaders of their rights under the law, as
well as to provide a better source of
information about other important topics that
affect their lives on the rails. Straight
Track has covered a wide range of topics,
such as how to complete an accident
report to how to behave around re-hab
nurses. We've covered the changes to the Railroad
Retirement Act as well as the potential
impact from possible changes to the landscape
of tort law. With a respectful nod to the
graying of the railroad workforce, we provide
information on health-related
topics from time to time. And of course, we
bring you news of all new court decisions
affecting railroaders'
rights, such as the excellent two-part
series by HF&D's Steve Garmisa that
explains an important -- and rare -- victory for
railroaders at the U.S. Supreme Court.
This
past summer the newsletter series left the
virtual email world and grew into book form: Straight
Track Annotated -- A Collection of the Best of
Straight Track. We have received a lot of
positive feedback from railroaders across the
country from this collection of articles.
TEAM
EFFORT
The
anniversary does not recognize the
accomplishment of one man. The achievement today
of putting together a three-year string of
weekly Straight Track editions is the
product of the team of people at Hoey & Farina. No one person ever carried the
load alone. The attorneys and investigators
listened to the concerns of railroaders at union
meetings and wrote the articles in answer to
these concerns. Others put in the leg work to
spread the word about Straight Track and
to collect email addresses week after week at
union meetings. Others helped to respond to the
questions raised by the articles. Still more
people worked on the technical end of things to
ensure that the article was received in the
subscribers' email In- Box.
The
teamwork that gets Straight Track out the
door each week is an example of what our firm
does best: We work together as team on behalf of
our clients. The results that we have produced
for our clients tell us that working together is
the best way -- and the right way -- to best
serve our clients' needs.
We
are pleased that thousands of people visit our
Web site each month to read past editions of Straight
Track and to access the other many offerings
provided. We appreciate the need for useful
knowledge and tools that help railroaders
protect their rights and their families. In
fact, we consider this our mission.
We
hope that you continue to read, share and
subscribe to Straight Track as we promise
to continue the Straight Track mission.
