In keeping up with other industries' and agencies’ efforts to promote public safety on the roads, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced (January 2010) a Federal Ban which prohibits commercial truck drivers from texting while driving and subjecting violators to civil or criminal penalties of up to $2,750.

The issue of distracted drivers, whether in cars, trains, buses or trucks, has been a hot safety issue as more and more accidents resulting in serious injuries and wrongful death occur due to cell phone use, including texting, while driving.
